I Dare You Book Tag

1. Dare you to jump backwards: Name a book you went into blindly and it let you down.

For this question, I’m going to have to go with a book I read just recently and was a huge let down, and that is We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. I had no idea what this book was about and went in purely on the back of the huge amount of praise it’s been getting for years, which was obviously a mistake. I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the story or the characters, and the big twist at the end – though I didn’t see it coming – I was just neutral about.

2. One drink too many: Name a book that gave you a hangover.

img_0135I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman definitely gave me a book hangover. All I wanted to do was re-read it along with the rest of her books because I just loved it so much. Not only did I adore the story and the characters, I just loved the entire tone of the book, and that’s what I craved after I’d finished. It just made me so happy and I couldn’t bear to read anything else that wouldn’t live up to that.

3. Spin the bottle: Name a book with a terrible romance or romance scene.

ACOMAF-cover1I’ve got to say, even though I enjoyed the book, the sex scene in A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas has to be one of the most accidentally hilarious scenes I’ve ever read. I’m not a fan of those scenes anyway, but I have to say that ACOMAF really took the biscuit.

4. Mooning: Name a book that was too descriptive.

11595276I’m going with The Miseducation of Cameron Post for this question. I enjoyed how descriptive the book was and it did a really good job of creating a picture, but I feel it did make the book a bit longer than it needed to be. It wasn’t anything that ruined the book, however.

5. Scream and Run: Name a book that wasn’t descriptive enough or left you confused.

Hot Milk by Deborah Levy is my answer for this one. I read it quite a long while ago now, and just couldn’t see the point of it. I was just left confused and underwhelmed.

6. Staring Contest: Name a book you thought was going to take forever but was over in the blink of an eye.34728667

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi must be my answer for this one. For a book over 500 pages, I read it in two sittings in a really busy time in my life. I was in a lot of pain when I did read it, and it completely consumed me, which is exactly what I needed. It honestly felt like I was reading a novella with how quick it went by, and I loved every second.

7. Car crash: Name a book that started great but ended badly.

I really enjoyed the beginning of Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart but I just found the ending to be completely underwhelming. It ended so suddenly and didn’t have the impact the book seemed to be building up towards.

8. Amnesia: Name a book that was forgettable or you forgot you read.

34499221 (1)I have to say that To Kill A Kingdom is a book that I found quite forgettable. I gave it a four stars and a good review at the time but looking back now, I realise that it didn’t impact me as much as I thought it would.

9. Broken Limb. Name a book that shattered you.

I’d have to go with either Dear Martin by Nic Stone, or the ending of The Darkest Minds by Alexander Bracken. Honestly, both these books destroyed me and had me sat gripping my book with my heart racing way too fast and tears in my eyes.

      1. Pfffft okay, that would do it. 😂 I don’t remember which scene that was either, but I know for sure that there were a few cosmic metaphors related to sex in this series, so I can totally imagine this lol.
