Hyped Book Series I Want To Finish In 2018

I am terrible at reading and finishing series. I either put them off completely, or read the first book, love it, then never pick up the second, third, etc. I think this stems from wanting to get to so many books I’m excited for that spending too much time in one world makes me antsy to get to the next. This is a mind set I really want to challenge this year, hence this post!

Now is also the perfect time, as I’ve finished my exams and finished sixth form, and so have the summer to kick back with my books!

Let’s dive into the list!

I’ve heard nothing but amazing things from this series and I’m so intrigued by the plot. From what I can make out, The Fifth Season (book one) takes place in a world called The Stillness, where a rift has been torn and is covering the skies in ash, causing a volcanic-winter style situation. Amongst all that, the protagonist must find her kidnapped daughter. There seems to be so much going on. N.K. Jemisin is also a woman of colour. I’ve read unforgivably little fantasy from black women, something I really need to change.

This series has a case of ‘I read the first book then gave up because I have commitment issues’ for me. A Darker Shade of Magic was a four star read so I enjoyed it and definitely want to continue. Schwab’s writing really connects with me and this is such a hyped trilogy. I need to conquer it!

I keep seeing so much hype for this series, and I want to try and dabble a little more in science fiction leaning fantasy books, which I believe this falls into. I managed to pick the first two books up at a charity shop for just £1 each, which is so awesome, and maybe a sign that it could be one of my new favourite series if I give it a go, right?

I’m not going to lie, I picked up this series purely because of Sam from Thoughts on Tomes and Cass from What Cass Read who are both wonderful Booktubers, and from whom I first heard about the Gentlemen Bastards series. Thief rings, con artists, and Oceans Eleven in the Renaissance? I was hardly going to say no!

I can feel you judging me, please take pity. I own the duology! The reason I haven’t yet picked these books up is purely down to me not wanting to be sucked into this world and becoming obsessed in the middle of exams. But now they’re out of the way, and I’m free to fall head over heels for these characters and their story! Yup, very high expectations. You guys better not let me down!

I need to re-read the first book of this trilogy when I get to it, and then continue through the other two ideally straight afterwards. I remember really enjoying the book, but read it in the middle of a readathon which I couldn’t fit around the other books in the trilogy, and so they fell to the sidelines. I’m a sucker for morally grey characters and magical abilities, so I’m very hyped to get back into this world, and back to Marie Lu’s writing!

Okay, now I feel like you’re really judging me. In my defence, I have read the first four books in the series and wasn’t overly in love with them, but my best friend Emily adores these series and I want it to be something I can share with her. This summer ideally will be my opportunity to finish TMI and get onto TID, which she promises is more to my reading tastes.

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a very exciting reading year in the rest of 2018! I really hope I can stick to this list, and if I don’t – hold me accountable!

What are some of the series you want to get to soon?

Until next time,

  1. I can’t really judge as I haven’t read a single Marie Lu or N.K. Jemison.

It took me a while to get into Red Rising and (unpopular opinion time) didn’t really like the first book. It does get better though.

Would certainly recommend ADSOM and I would say the second book may be better than the first. Six of Crows is also brill but again I found it hard to get into.

I’m too scared to think of how many series I haven’t finished but I hope you enjoy your reads.
