Location Book Tag (Original Tag)

Hello! This is my first original tag and I’ve loved creating it. It would mean the world if you read and did it yourself!

1. You’re sat in a coffee shop trying to read when a group of excited 6 year olds come in with their parents and begin screaming in the play area. Which book can you push past the noise and lose yourself in?

The Diviners by Libba Bray. Though I never managed to finish it – my audiobook got corrupted somehow and I lost it – this book was definitely very atmospheric and totally encompassing. I think I could get lost in this world regardless of where I am.

2. Your (rich) friends dare you to spend the night in a haunted house for an undisclosed but inevitably large sum of money. Which book do you bring to distract yourself with?

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I feel like reading this book would remind me that there are real horrors in this life without worrying about the horrors of the afterlife. Plus, this book is beautifully written and would keep me occupied the whole night.

3. Though the landscapes are beautiful, your delayed train journey is starting to drag. Which book do you take out?

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. A delayed train was where the idea for Harry Potter was first born so it is only fitting that it should be the perfect place to read it. And I could pretend I was on the Hogwart’s Express to pass the time.

4. It’s beach time! You have your family and friends around you and don’t want to miss out on the conversation too much but still want to read. Which book do you choose?

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I read this one in 24 hours in the garden under the sun, when I would usually hide in the shade, so the beach would be perfect. It is also a nice, easy read that you can switch in and out of to still be part of conversations.

5. You’re backstage ready for your big emotional scene but the tears just won’t come. Which book do you get out to make you cry?

Michael Rosen’s Sad Book by Michael Rosen. I read this while cleaning out my local primary school’s library and almost sobbed in front of a bunch of seven year-olds. The illustrations are just as emotional as the words and I still can’t get this one out of my head.

6. You’re camping in the woods with your friends and you’re the first to wake up. Which book do you read under the early morning light?

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. I feel like with the light coming through the branches and the thick of the forest floor, the illustrations will really come to life and make it even more immersive. The downside is I would be crying for the rest of the day but I think it’s worth it.

7. You’ve had an amazing day on your solo trip but now that you’re back at the hotel, you’re starting to feel a little homesick. What do you read to feel less lonely?

Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. I will always feel at home with these characters as I will feel at home with the characters from Harry Potter. They have been a huge part of my childhood and always feel like family.

8. You’ve been invited for an interview for an place at a prestigious university. Which book do you lay flat on your knee to hide the cover while you wait?

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I’m not a huge fan of this book. It was fluffy and easy to read, but that cover is terrible. I hate people on the cover of books but this one is one of the worst. I would be hiding this one for sure!

9. The book exchange stall at the library finally has the book you’ve wanted for so long, and you have a book in your bag that you’ve been dying to get rid of. Which do you give away, and which do you take?

I would trade The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenager for Harry Potter Illustrated Edition. I hated TTTW and I’ve been meaning to buy Harry Potter because it’s so beautiful but whenever I save up the money to buy it, I always end up buying a new book. One day!!

10. You were just browsing the children’s section of the library and boom, you’re hit with a sudden blast from the past. Which book have you found that you haven’t seen for years but that you used to love as a child?

13 Treasures by Michelle Harrison. I remember reading this one during one of my many trips to A&E (I was an injury-prone, sickly kid) and not caring that the waiting line was so long. This was also one of the first books I can remember choosing from the library.
